FAQ
What is Cosmetic Tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing is the process of implanting colour pigment beneath the surface of the skin using disposable needles to enhance the natural appearance of ones face or body.
How old do I have to be?
You do have to be 18 and over.
It is illegal to tattoo anyone under the age of 18.
Procedure Contraindications:
As a precaution, I do not perform Cosmetic Tattooing if any of the following apply:
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy
• If you are Epileptic
• If you are prone to scarring/keloid scarring
• If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy/treatment for cancer.
(Clients post-treatment are able to obtain cosmetic tattooing upon providing an approval letter from your Oncologist)
• If you’ve gotten Botox/Dysport/Fillers around the area to be treated and are less than 3 weeks from your cosmetic tattoo appointment.
• If you are on blood thinners
• If you are Diabetic
• If you are on Roaccutane (Must be off minimum 6 months, 12 months preferred)
• If you have any open wounds, pimples, grazes, cuts, fresh sunburn or fresh tan on the area to be treated.
Please note - If you attend your appointment with any of the above you will forfeit your paid booking fee and we will need to reschedule your appointment.
Does Cosmetic Tattooing hurt?
Pain thresholds vary for each individual person. Obtaining cosmetic tattooing during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. Clients have advised obtaining a Brow Tattoo with a headache there has been some discomfort. Every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the procedure.
How long does it last?
Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered semi-permanent and will fade over time. They need to be touched up annually but frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors. Lighter Pigments fade faster, lifestyle such as sun exposure can fade your cosmetic tattoo (I highly recommend that once your tattoo is fully healed that you wear spf over your tattoo daily.)
Chemical/laser peels fade your tattoo. Skin care products such as retinol/retinoids, skin lightening/brightening and anti-aging products used leading up to your appointment and your daily life post tattoo. I recommended avoiding using these products on the area to be tattooed 2 weeks prior getting tattooed and avoid the area post tattoo.
Final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will retain pigment differently and also break down at a different rate. Clients with dry skin tend to hold pigment for longer in comparison to clients with oily skin.
Microblading - Clients with dry skin tend to have more crisp, defined tattooed strokes where as clients with oily skin find their strokes may blur and fade more.
Multiple sessions are completely normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures.
How many treatments are needed?
For most clients a minimum of 2 treatments are needed, at least 8-12 weeks apart. At this second session the colour retention is assessed and any necessary adjustments are made. Remember, everyone heals differently and at different rates! Healed results will vary and use of a pencil/powder/pomade/gel for your bows, lipgloss/lipstick for your lips may still be required. For freckles you may notice they become less visible once you place make up over the top or in summer as your face naturally tans. For this reason you may personally desire more sessions.
Additional sessions (charged accordingly) may be required to achieve your desired results. To maintain your cosmetic tattoo it is recommend you attend Refresher Sessions.
What factors will affect my Cosmetic Tattoo?
A multitude of individual and lifestyle factors will affect the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo including the following:
• The time it takes for your body’s skin cells to regenerate will affect how the skin grasps the pigment. The longer this process takes, the longer the pigment will hold.
• The time it takes for the skin to absorb the pigment will also affect how the skin grasps the pigment. The slower the process, the longer the pigment will hold.
• Lighter pigments such as blonde will fade faster than a darker pigment.
• Bleeding during the procedure reduces the amount of pigment that can be absorbed. For brow cosmetic tattoo, this can cause the end result to appear less crisp. Please do not consume substances which cause blood thinning prior to your appointment (such as alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, but please consult your GP before stopping any prescription medications)
• If you are anemic you will metabolize the pigment faster and your tattoo will fade quicker.
• Thyroid medication.
• Sun exposure will fade your tattoo. Once healed, I highly recommend that you wear spf over your tattoo daily.
• Smoking causes faster fading.
When can I use make up/products on the tattooed area?
Once the area is completely healed and the scabs have naturally flaked off you may gently apply make up/products (3 weeks to be safe!)
What should I bring to my appointment?
Yourself, your ID, a mask, a non-caffeinated drink.
If you’ve never had any type of tattoo/cosmetic tattoo before make sure to at least have a light meal or snack before.
Can I bring a friend/my child to my appointment?
Please only bring yourself to your appointment.
If you are unable to attend your appointment alone then you may reschedule giving notice of minimum 72 hours by emailing [email protected].
